The police said on Friday that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Mumbai was emailed a bomb threat and as a consequence, swift action was taken by the concerned law enforcement green blues. A news agency has reported receiving an email in Russian that was sent to the official website of the RBI warning of a bomb blast at the bank.
Police did not waste any time and started investigating the case soon. An FIR has been lodged at Mata Ramabai Ambedkar (MRA) Marg Police Station for the unknown person responsible for this threat. The incident was confirmed by the Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and he further said, “An email threat was received on the RBI official website. It was an email in Russian that threatened to bomb the bank. A case has been lodged against an unidentified accused, where the investigation continues to be on.”
Due to the information and the source of the received email, the motives and legitimacy of the threat are in doubt. Due to the delicate role of the RBI as the central banking body of India, the threat has been considered real. Security in and around the RBI has been beefed up, and actually, at this time, the bomb squad is patrolling as a precaution.
“Specialists are still trying to determine the sources of the e-mail and to predict all the message’s nuances in order to estimate the real level of the threat,” one source reported. On the other hand, cybersecurity workers are working hand in hand with the police to track the trace at the back of the email and its connection to global networks.
The case has raised concern with officials since it brings out the reality of the threats posed by hackers and the necessity of putting measures to counter them. Additional information regarding the full details of the case is still being provided as authorities strive to solve the incident.
