Mumbai: A team of lawyers left Narayan Rane’s residence after convening with him as he announced to move an application letter today in Bombay High Court for quashing the FIR filed against him. After being released on bail, the security has been beefed up at the Union Minister, Narayan Rane’s residence as Shiv Sena and allies plan protests.
Meanwhile, the Pune police have stated no immediate police custody of Rane will be attempted. Nearly five FIRs have been lodged against the BJP Rajya Sabha member. The FIRs have been reportedly registered by Shive Sena in Pune, Mahad, Nashik, Jalgaon and Thane City police jurisdictions.
Sources report the BJP MPs would submit a memorandum to Lok Sabha Speaker over violation of Narayan Rane’s rights. Addressing the media, State BJP President Chandrakant Patil alleged Rane was arrested by the police without a warrant and that Shiv Sena leader Anil Parab had urged the police to use ’force’ to arrest him. “As an MP, Narayan Rane’s special rights were violated (due to the police action). BJP MPs from Maharashtra will approach the LS Speaker and submit a memorandum,” Patil said.
Rane’s lawyers sought a bail on health grounds last night after he was arrested for issuing a controversial remarks where in comments to have slapped Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The statement triggered a political row and protests. Rane was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and taken to Raigad at first from where he was likely to be produced in court. Issuing his bail notice, the court however summoned him to the police station on August 31 and September 13.
