Mumbai: The Rana couple on Thursday walked out of the prison on Thursday afternoon, after the bail formalities were stalled on Wednesday. The Borivali court on Wednesday had granted the couple bail after furnishing a surety of Rs 50,000 each in connection to a sedition case that was registered a week ago.
At around 2 pm today, Navneet Rana, MP Amaravati came out of Byculla women’s jail and was straight taken to a private hospital as she complained of ailments of BP and spondylitis, the lawyer of the Lok Sabha member said.
Husband, Independent MLA Ravi Rana was consequently released from the Taloja prison at around 4 pm after the formalities at the bail box were completed.
The couple was arrested on 23 April by the Khar Police under sections 124 (A) (sedition) and 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups) of IPC. The couple had announced to chant Hanuman Chalisa in front of Maharashtra CM Thackeray’s private residence Matohshree igniting anger amongst the Shiv Sena members, Thackeray’s party leading to tension in the city.
