New Delhi: Amidst heavy sloganeering from the opposition, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day during the afternoon hours, Resuming after nearly four adjournments of varied duratiom today, the Upper house is adjourned until 11 Am tomorrow.
As soon as the reassembled at 4pm, Union Minister Amit Shah was called to present his remarks on the Nagaland insurgency incident which killed 14 people. Despite continuous sloganeering from oppositions, Shah managed to read his statements in both the houses amidst demands of repealment of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) thrown in by opposition. “Government of India expresses regrets over the incident and condolences to those killed… a SIT has been formed and has been directed to complete investigation in a month. Situation is tense but under control. All agencies have to ensure such incidents do not happen in future, he read.”
In the Lok Sabha today, NDPP MP from Nagaland demanded a compensation from the Centre to the next of kin deceased. He also informed that the Nagaland state administration had initiated an inquiry and released an ex-gratia of Rs 5Lakh to the bereaved families.
Both the houses have been recording disruptions since the winter session commenced. So far 52% of the scheduled sitting time of Rajya Sabha has been lost due to heavy sloganeering and protests.
