Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled portraits of the first BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and one of the founding leaders of the Hindu Mahasabha, Madan Mohan Malaviya, at the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Saturday.
During the event, Mr Singh also released a coffee table book titled Bharat Mata in the presence of Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta. The book is dedicated to the creative and artistic expression of Indian national consciousness, on the occasion of 150 years of the composition of the National Song Vande Mataram.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rajnath Singh said, it is not only an occasion to honour the contributions of these two big personalities, but it is also a moment to honour the country’s parliamentary traditions, moral politics and the spirit of nationalism.
“The portraits will be installed in the Assembly House as a mark of deep respect and as a lasting tribute to the monumental contributions of these two national icons to India’s democracy, education, culture and public life,” the Assembly secretariat said in a statement on Thursday.
