Earlier on Monday, while interacting with the officers at the Army War College in Mhow of Madhya Pradesh, Rajnath Singh – the Union Defence Minister, claimed that there is a rising threat from asymmetric weapons. Among these tools are information warfare, artificial intelligence and big data warfare, proxy warfare, electromagnetic warfare, space warfare, and cyber warfare, which are getting more important in today’s wars. Singh pointed out that these new threats are increasingly transforming the strategic international security system and that the armed forces cannot afford to rest or relax.
There are still wars going on in different parts of the world, and there are always beefs arising that may instigate other wars. He pointed out the idea that relations between nations are in a state of transition, and so is warfare strategy. He underlined the need for armed forces to continue to be in a state of readiness to effectively counter the new threats and applauded the efforts as provided by military training establishments such as those at Mhow, where soldiers are being prepared for wars of the future.
”That is why the possession of the frontier technologies is vital when today’s world constantly changes,” Singh added, stressing the necessity of constant redevelopment in the army. He also expressed concerns about the effects of the reserved production by certain countries on some fundamental needs, such as electronic chips and rare earth minerals. Singh previously pointed out that some of these areas, especially China, try to dominate or weaponize such assets that are crucial for both war and diplomatic actions.
According to Rajnath Singh, the current warfare is essentially indirect, and technology is at the core of this. He pointed out that while a direct war may not already be possible, war-like circumstances are being formed are part of a war, and technology is the leading weapon. The current nature of conflict means that armed forces must harness certain technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity.
The minister also spoke about India’s development strategy to turn the country into ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 and increase defense.
