In a major step after the military operation of India, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday morning. He has not visited the Valley ever since Operation Sindoor, which India has conducted, and a high-level military attack on terror strongholds in Pakistan and Pakistan–occupied Kashmir (PoK), to avenge the deadly April 22 terror attack on Pahalgam.
Having Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha by his side, Mr. Singh inspected the all-around security situation and measured the preparedness of the Indian Armed Forces on the ground. While on his visit, he also checked the Pakistani artillery shells that were fired into the border areas and stayed with the soldiers at the 15 Corps Headquarters. Interacting with the army men, he gave a touching tribute to the martyrs and to the civilians who were killed in the Pahalgam attack. “I salute those valiant soldiers who died in the combat against terrorism. They will never be forgotten for their courage and sacrifice ” he said. He also sent quick recoveries to those wounded while on service.
Terming Operation Sindoor as a bold and decisive move, Mr. Singh opined, “This is India’s biggest Anti-terrorist operation till date. We are determined to root terrorism from where it is found and Pakistan has to cut its dealings with terrorists.” In a dramatic move, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh cast doubts over Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal, whether such arms will be secure in the hands of the country, and that the world should take cognisance of the issues.
The visit happened just days after the tour made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Adampur Air Force base in Punjab was fired by Pakistan in retaliation. PM Modi confirmed India’s stance on terrorism that has zero tolerance, saying, “Operation Sindoor is the new normal — India will respond decisively to any attack on its citizens.”
