Railways to partially restart train services from 1 June; bookings for 200 trains to begins today

INDIA: As a step towards a gradual restart of services, the Indian Railways has decided to double the number of Shramik special trains to 400 a day by this week and also recommence 200 AC/ Non-AC trains starting from June 1.  

Indian Railways on Wednesday released the list of 200 passenger trains that it will start operating from June 1. The bookings for these trains will begin on May 21, from 10 am onwards. The Ministry of Railways on May 19 had announced that starting June 1, it will operate 200 AC/Non-AC, second class, passenger trains daily.

These trains will be in addition to the existing Shramik special trains being run since May 1 and Special AC trains (30 trains) being run since May 12.
“Ministry of Railways in consultation with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided that train services on Indian Railways shall be further partially restored from 1st June 2020.”, said government official.

“These will be fully reserved trains having both AC, non-AC classes. the general coaches shall also have reserved seats for sitting,” said the Railways.

“The second seating fare shall be charged for general coaches being reserved and the seat to all passengers,” further added.

The bookings of tickets can be through online IRCTC website or app and advance reservation period shall be maximum 30 days for trains to be run from 1 June, Railways added.

Notably, passenger has to follow social distancing and government guidelines. No tickets will be sold at any railway station and prospective travelers should not come to the railway station to buy tickets.

Taking it to their twitter handle, Ministry of Railways informed that “Railways will run 200 fully reserved trains with AC/Non-AC coaches, wef 1st june Tickets can only be booked online, 30 days advance All coaches including General coach will be fully reserved E-ticket booking on IRCTC website starts at 10 am on 21st May.”
