Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, himself called Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to see how the operations to fetch the workers who were trapped in a tunnel that caved in at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) on Saturday were progressing.
In the 20-minute conversation, CM Revanth Reddy gave a detailed description of the actions that the state government took immediately after the incident. He told Gandhi that the administration acted quickly, sent Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy to the site, and called in the National and State Disaster Response Forces (NDRF & SDRF) to begin the rescue mission.
Revanth Reddy thanked Gandhi for his concern and shared the details of their conversation on X (previously Twitter). In his post, he wrote: “My leader and the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Shri @RahulGandhi Ji, spoke to me regarding the ongoing rescue operations at the SLBC tunnel. I explained how our government promptly responded to the crisis, including sending Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy Garu to the site and deploying rescue teams.”
It is claimed that Rahul Gandhi praised the efforts made up to that point and told the state government that there should be no compromise on the rescue of the trapped workers. “He told us to try and do our best to rescue them, and I told him that we are,” Reddy said.
Rahul Gandhi had taken to X to share his concern over the tragic incident earlier. “Deeply distressed to learn about the tunnel roof collapse in Telangana. My thoughts are with those trapped inside and their families at this difficult time,” he posted.
