New Delhi: Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on grounds of staging a sit-out protest near Vijay Chowk was detained by the Delhi Police. Gandhi who staged solidarity with the other parliamentarians who violated Section 144 imposed in the area was lifted by the Delhi police and placed in a van. Congress leaders held placards and raised slogans against the central government demanding a reconsideration of the GST. Apart from Gandhi, Ranjeet Ranjan, KC Venugopal, Manickam Tagore, Imran Pratapgarhi, and K Suresh are among others who were bundled into the bus.
In response to the security officers forcing the MPs to vacate the spot, Senior Congress leader Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge expressed angst on why they were not being allowed to meet the president despite protesting as per norms. In his statements, he alleged that the PM and Amit Shah were conspiring to destroy the opposition and muzzle their existence.

The Congress MPs on Tuesday carried out a protest march from Parliament house to the Rashtrapati Bhavan after the interim Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had arrived at the ED for questioning in connection to the money laundering charges linked to the National Herald newspaper. The Senior Gandhi was accompanied by her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka at the ED office.
