New Delhi: Indian Olympic winner PV Sindhu reached the quarter-finals of the Denmark Open Super 1000 tournament on Thursday after dodging her opponent from Thailand. Competing against Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-16, 12-21, 21-15 Sindhu outclassed Busanan in 67 minutes. This is Sindhu’s first event after the Tokyo Olympics Heroics.
Earlier on Wednesday, Lakshya Sen advanced to the second round after combating compatriot Sourabh Verma in straight games, while Saina Nehwal lost her match exiting Denmark Open Super 1000 tournament. He is scheduled to have tussle against world No. 2 Viktor Axelsen in the round of 16, while Sameer Verma will meet Anders Antonsen from the host country.
The 20 year old badminton player, had finished runners-up at the Dutch Open last Sunday, showcasing a fabulous performance to put down national champion Sourabh 21-9 21-7 in 26 minutes.
London Games bronze medallist Saina, failed to keep up against Japan’s world number 20 Aya Ohori and lost 21-16 21-14 in the opening round.
Denmark Open is an annual badminton tournament held in Denmark and organized by Danmarks Badminton Forbund. Earlier the Denmark Open was part of the BWF Super Series Premier from 2011 to 2017.
