Reports by the Russian state media and a formal confirmation by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reveal that Russian President Vladimir Putin will come to India on a visit from December 45, 2025, after an official invitation was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be his first time in the 23rd Annual Summit of India and Russia that is a yearly event manifesting the long-standing diplomatic relations of the two countries.
According to MEA, President Putin will have close discussions with Prime Minister Modi on the discussion of the current bilateral cooperation and the strategic vision of the future. The talks are likely to span a vast amount of issues such as defence relations, energy relations, space relations, trade relations, and technological relations, which are some of the pillars of the so-called Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership of both countries.
Besides the summit-level interaction, President Putin will also be welcomed by the President of India and he will be given an official banquet by the President of India which will be a clear indication of the ceremonial and diplomatic importance of the visit.
The MEA pointed out that a state visit as a future event will be a valuable opportunity to two leaders to review recent developments, find new areas of engagement, and to exchange their views on topical issues in the region and the world at large, including security issues, geopolitical changes, multilateral cooperation, and new economic opportunities.
The visit of Putin is timely because India and Russia still have close relations in the world order which is quickly changing. The meeting will probably renew the long-standing alliance between the countries and may result in new deals to enhance economic interactions, military armament and technological advancement.
The December meeting is expected to boost diplomacy between New Delhi and Moscow, making a relationship based on decades of strategic trust and cooperation.
