Puri– Puri in Odisha witnessed a spiritual fervour as lakhs of devotees gathered to witness the renowned Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. The grand ceremony of pulling the beautifully adorned chariots on the great avenue called “Bada Danda” in front of the Shree Mandir commenced on Tuesday at noon.
Before the departure of the Holy Trinity from the 12th-century shrine, several sacred rituals were performed, including Mangla Arati, Mailam, Tadapa lagi, Rosahoma, Abakasha, Surjya Puja, and Ratha Pratishta. With rhythmic movements, the deities descended from their throne and proceeded on their journey outside the temple, accompanied by chants, conch shells, and the devotion of priests and devotees. Odisha’s CM also tweeted ‘Jay Jagannath.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their greetings to the nation and the devotees of Lord Jagannath on the auspicious occasion. Security measures were intensified, with air and maritime surveillance deployed to ensure the safety of the pilgrim town. The coast guard and marine wing of the Odisha police worked together to patrol the sea and shallow waters, while CCTV cameras were strategically placed to enhance security.
The Puri Rath Yatra holds immense significance as devotees gather to witness the sacred journey of Lord Jagannath, seeking blessings and spiritual enrichment. The festivities continue to evoke devotion and unite people in celebrating this grand festival of devotion and faith.
