On Wednesday, the Punjab government formed a special investigation team (SIT) to look into all aspects of Nihang leader Aman Singh’s group’s activities, including the terrible murder of Lakhbir Singh near the Singhu border, secret meetings between a police cat-turned-murder convict, and the true identities of some Nihang leaders.
A 35-year-old man was discovered tied to a wall with one of his arms severed near the Singhu border on Friday. Over ten injuries produced by sharp weapons damaged his body. The deceased was eventually brought to a local civil hospital for a postmortem. According to the FIR, the victim was identified as Lakhbir Singh, a Dalit Sikh labourer.
Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Punjab Deputy CM, has ordered Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh to call a meeting of various Nihang groups to learn more about Baba Aman Singh’s activities. Lakhbir Singh’s family has also demanded an investigation into his death, which was carried out by Nihangs near the Singhu border. The SIT would be led by ADGP Varinder Kumar, Director Bureau of Investigation (BBI).
According to Randhawa, the incidents involving the Nihang group near the Singhu border appeared to be the result of a vast plot. The SIT will also look into the background of Baba Sarvjit Singh, who had surrendered to Sonipat police for the murder of Lakhbir. Randhawa found it weird that his hair was cut on a video filmed by journalists after his turban fell off.
