Pune: The lawyer defending a teenager accused in the Pune Porsche late-night hit-and-run case said that the teen had failed to get admission into a management institute in Delhi because of NOC from JJB. After physically trying to enrol in the 17-year-old’s BBA course, the institute approved the application but later rejected it, arguing that he needed an NOC because of the ongoing case.

Notice had been taken by the defence council, which, in turn, made an application before the JJB for the said NOC but withdrew the same later. Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hiray added that while the teen’s lawyer focused on the admission issue, he reminded the court that education is a constitutional right that should not be violated. The defence later said that the teen changed his mind about getting into Delhi and would apply for a college in Pune only.

The 17-year-old boy, the son of a well-known builder of Pune, is allegedly responsible for driving a Porsche that struck down four motorbikes and sped away in the wee hours of May 19. Two IT engineers on a motorbike lost their lives in the unfortunate crash in Kalyani Nagar, Pune. The teen was also allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

On September 26, the Pune police added other charges to the teen, including damaging evidence, counterfeiting, and offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Accompanying these charges, a supplementary report was provided to the Juvenile Justice Board together with the initial charges of ‘culpable murder, not qua murder” according to Section 304 IPC.

The JJB received its final report from the police in June, along with the evidence, when the accused was indicted. By July, a chargesheet was filed in a Pune court, which accused the teenager and seven others.
