New Delhi: Massive protests outsparked in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur after Friday prayers over remarks by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and her former colleague Naveen Kumar Jindal who are yet to be arrested weeks.

Jama Masjid in Delhi witnessed large number of people who gathered to protest against the inflammatory remarks issued by the BJP members. Imam of the Masjid said, “We don’t know who are the ones protesting. I think they belong to AIMIM or are Owaisi’s people. We made it clear that if they want to protest, they can, but we will not support them”.

Meanwhile, the Fort Road also witnessed effigy burning of suspended BJP Spokesperson Nupur Sharma as the protestors agitated. The municipal corporation immediately removed the effigy while the police registered a case against unknown miscreants for spreading enmity between communities and disturbing peace in the society.

A similar situation prevailed in Doda and Kishtwar areas of the Jammu region prompting authorities to impose a curfew there while parts of Kashmir observed a shutdown over the controversial remarks by two now-suspended BJP leaders against Prophet Mohammad.

On Thursday, local protested at Ankurhati on NH 116, Howrah disrupting traffic. A few protesters who were present on the site shouted slogans that Nupur should be given harshest punishment.
