Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a review meeting over the coronavirus situation in Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, and stressed the need for vaccination of everyone over 45 years of age.
He asked the local administration to help people with full sensitivity and asserted that the cooperation of society as well as the government is necessary to curb the pandemic.
PM reiterated the importance of masks and urged all to ensure ‘do gaj ki doori’. He said that as a representative of Varanasi, he takes constant feedback from the public and in the last five-six years, medical infrastructure has advanced in Varanasi that has helped in the fight against Covid-19.
The Prime Minister told the officials that the basic COVID-19 rules like frequent sanitisation of hands, wearing masks and maintaining social distance should be followed thouroughly.
During the meeting, the prime minister took stock of testing, availability of beds, medicines, vaccines and manpower for prevention of coronavirus and proper treatment of covid-19 infected patients. He directed the officers to provide all possible assistance to the public expeditiously.
This meeting came as Varanasi contributed 1664 Covid-19 cases on Saturday and witnessed eight deaths. Uttar Pradesh on Saturday witnessed 27,357 new cases of the coronavirus disease, a day after reporting its largest single-day rise of 27,426 fresh infections, according to a health department bulletin.
