Uttar Pradesh: Anand Giri, who is the prime accused in the death case of All India Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri, on Wednesday was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. This took place after he was produced before the CJM court in Prayagraj in connection with the case.
Hanuman temple’s chief priest Aadya Tiwari, who was also arrested earlier on Tuesday in connection with this case, has also been sent to judicial custody. Both Anand Giri and the chief priest will be lodged in the Naini Central Jail.
However, Anand Giri had earlier said it is a conspiracy against him. “It’s a big conspiracy by the people, who used to extort money from Guruji and wrote my name in the letter. It needs to be investigated as Guruji hasn’t written a letter in his life and couldn’t do any suicide; his handwriting needs to be probed. I have spent my entire life over there and never took any money. Everything was good between me and Guruji and hence I request the government to investigate the matter thoroughly,” he added.
Mahant Narendra Giri was found dead in his room at the Baghambari Math in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Monday evening. Anand Giri was detained in Haridwar on Monday night and subsequently arrested by the police. An FIR naming him was registered under Section 306 (abatement to suicide) of the IPC at the George Town Police Station in Prayagraj.
