In her speech during the first day of the third edition of the Chanakya Defence Dialogue-2025 in New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu pointed at the dynamic nature of the Indian national security challenges and the unalterable adherence of the Armed Forces to the sovereignty of India. She praised the military as always exhibiting professionalism, bravery and flexibility in a variety of circumstances- be it a traditional war and counter-insurgency campaigns and humanitarian operations.

The President had specifically pointed out the recent success of the Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in the counter-terror and deterrence policy of India. She observed that this operation did not only reveal the level of military power of India, but also her sense of morality and responsible behavior in maintaining peace. As she says, the world community observed the solid, but principled attitude of India.

President Murmu also emphasized the extended use of the defence forces in nation-building. In addition to border security, they have also played a great role in developments within the isolated regions of the country through better infrastructure, communication, tourism, and education. She stated that the changing geopolitical environment is changing at a very fast pace and that the technological disruptions and new points of power, such as the cyber, space and information warfare create the necessity to be dynamic.

The President said that guided by the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, India has been able to maintain a balance between strategic autonomy and the global responsibility. She emphasized that the integrated forces of India or diplomacy, economy and military projects can present a country which is peaceful and at the same time is well equipped to protect its citizens and its land.

Dwelling upon military reforms during the Decade of Transformation, Murmu pointed out that the Army is modernizing its structures, doctrines and capabilities so that they may keep up with the future. She liked continued attempts to promote patriotism among young people by growing NCC, teaching and sports, and encouraged more women officers and soldiers to participate.

The President believed that deliberations in the Chanakya Defence Dialogue-2025 will give directions to policymakers and empower the vision of India.
