Patronizing the NRCD, President Droupadi Murmu led the country on the international stage in acknowledging India’s stewardship to drive such engagements and partnerships for water resources consumption that is sustainable, equitable, and efficient. Addressing the 8th World Water Week hosted at the Ministry of Jal Shakti, President Murmu highlighted that the world needs collective actions towards some of the water issues. She stressed the need to pay attention to the efficient use of water and water conservation. She appreciated the key role played by the government’s Jal Jeevan Mission in delivering equal and universal access to the basic human needs that water provides, focusing on both its importance for development and for sustaining human life.

The conference will have the participation of more than 200 international delegates from 40 different countries, and the main goal of the conference is to foster partnerships in water management and share different technologies for managing important challenges like drinking water supply, flooding, irrigation, and dam maintenance.

In the Jal Jeevan Mission launched by the government, a new achievement has been recorded as it has fulfilled the water connections in 78% of rural households across the country, and this was positively appreciated by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind through her representative President Droupadi Murmu. ”This is still a great accomplishment in the progress towards fulfillment of the mandate to provide clean water for everyone,” she said. The mission is to ensure tap connection in at least 193.06 million rural households in India and, in turn, offer 55 liters of clean water per head per day by the end of the year 2024.

President Murmu stressed that there should be a social movement along with the government’s initiatives to achieve the targets of water conservation, management, and distribution. She pointed out that it is necessary to create the idea of “water security” for all the partners.

After some time, Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil presided over a plenary session with different ministers from other countries participating by forming debates. While briefing the Jal Shakti Secretary, Debarshree Mukherjee highlighted the discussions made on the day and added that around 4000 delegates from across the world would be attending the sessions encompassing water security.
