New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday said pre-registration for Covid-19 vaccination through online registration “CoWIN” is not mandatory to avail the service. The government said anyone, aged 18 years and more can ‘walk in’ for vaccination.
A statement issued by PIB read,” CoWIN platform is just one of the many modes of registration for vaccinations apart from walk-ins. Health workers or ASHAs mobilize beneficiaries in rural areas and urban slums to opt for on-site registration to expand vaccination coverage.” The health care workers in rural areas can also avail assistance through helpline number 1075, it added.
As per the data collected by the centre- Out of the 28.36 crore beneficiaries registered on CoWIN till June 13, 16.45 crore beneficiaries had availed on-spot registration, which meant only 19.84 crore citizens got vaccinated through on-site registrations.
Shedding light over the ongoing reports suggesting disparity between urban and rural vaccinations, the Health Ministry said that 71 per cent of all 69,995 registered for immunization at the rural vaccination centres.
Vaccination per million population in tribal districts is higher than the National average. 128 out of 176 Tribal Districts are performing better than all India vaccination coverage, reported the Ministry.
