Pulwama: In the midst of a heavy downpour in Pulwama on Friday, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti released the party’s manifesto, stating that the post-2019 situation is unacceptable to her party and that she will raise people’s voices in Parliament. “Today, we release our manifesto in light of the prevailing circumstances in Jammu and Kashmir,” she said. Further she said, “We have released our manifesto today. Sadak, Pani, and Bijli will be the aim of all other parties. However, we have made our manifesto based on what has been snatched from us in 2019.”
The PDP President was there amid the unpleasant weather to support the party’s candidate, Waheed-Ur Rahman Para, for the Srinagar constituency. While addressing the people, Mehbooba stated that the main purpose of the PDP appealing for votes is to inform the country via parliament that what the BJP has done to them in 2019 is not acceptable. “The unilateral decisions, stifling of just voices and erosion of constitutional guarantees are unacceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We will convey this to the people of the country in Parliament. This is why attempts to divide our votes must be foiled,” she said.
Mufti said that her party will try to raise issues regarding the multiple challenges faced by J&K at present. “Our domicile laws have been altered, our resources exploited, and our land usurped,” she said. She claimed that the youth here are detained inappropriately and, without trial, are dumped in jails. “Post-2019, Jammu and Kashmir has been turned into an open-air prison. Our resources, jobs, and land are being taken away from us. We are duty-bound to highlight the agonies of people in the parliament,” she said. The PDP President further expressed that the present situation in Jammu and Kashmir is terrible.
Highlights of the PDP manifesto are: infrastructure development and youth empowerment, with plans to allocate MPLAD funds for skill centers, education, and basic amenities in remote areas; enhancing connectivity and accessibility in overlooked constituencies such as Rajouri and Poonch. Mufti alleged that the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities are being displaced, and horticulture is suffering due to decisions made by authorities. She objected that traders and transporters are facing losses. The ED and NIA are pursuing people; the Government of India is silencing their voices she said.
