PM’s Overconfidence Defaces the Nations Livelihood After the Country Flagged More than 3.20lakh Cases for the Sixth Day
New Delhi: Recording around 3,19 315l lakh new infections, this is the sixth day when the novel coronavirus took a huge Indian lot on its radar. The has been reporting the highest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases in the world consistently from the last six days, recording a higher number each day.
Documenting 28,75,041 active cases, the test positivity rate was registered at 6.3%. A higher positivity rate is worrying the country as it suggests a higher prevalence of the disease. Nearly 2,762 deaths were reported amidst the health care crisis across the nation.
The World Health Organization chief voiced alarm Monday at India’s record-breaking wave of Covid-19 cases and deaths, saying the organization was rushing to help address the crisis. Sources reveal, WHO has provided thousands of oxygen concentrators, prefabricated mobile field hospitals and laboratory supplies to India.
On the other hand, the state has directed states to enforce lockdowns and restrictions on contaminant zones. As per the guidelines issued by Union Home Ministry the states have to levy restrictions when the positivity rate is 10 percent or more for a week and when more than 60 percent of hospital beds are occupied. State authorities have been directed to take spruce decisions on an evidence-based scenario and analyse the geographical distribution of the virus and the hospital situations.
This means when positivity is 10 percent or more for a week meaning one in 10 samples are testing positive and if more than 60 percent of beds, either oxygen-supported or ICU, are occupied by Covid patients the administration should impose restrictions.
Guidelines in red zones:
- A night curfew has been ordered
- All social and political gatherings are banned.
- All socializing infrastructure and religious enclosures will be shut down.
- No restriction of interstate transport and logistics. However, public transport can operate with half the capacity.
- Industrial, corporate and scientific establishments will function half capacity and re-iterate RT-PCR tests frequently.
Prior to this announcement, Karnataka announced a two-week lockdown from today from 9 pm for the coming 14 days. Essential services will be allowed between 6 am and 10 am following which the state will be shut. Subsequently, Punjab also announced a night curfew from 6 pm to 5 am during weekdays and a weekend lockdown from 6 pm on Friday to 5 am on Monday.
