New Delhi: Amidst escalating shelling in Ukraine, the Quad leaders have decided to convene virtually for its summit. US President, Australian PM Scott Morrison and his Japan counterpart Fumio Kishida would also attend the meeting today.
The Ministry of External Affairs informed about the virtual convene through a press release. The leaders will exchange views and assessments about important developments in the Indo-Pacific- the statement further informed.
The leaders will have an opportunity to continue their dialogue after the September 2021 Summit in Washington DC. They will exchange views and assessments about important developments in the Indo-Pacific,” the press release said.
The last in-person Quad meeting was held in September in Washington DC. The summit comes amidst the massive criticism endured by India on abstaining from votes in the United Nations against Russia. Prez Biden who heads the international community in bringing sanctions against the nuclear-rich nation has urged India to take ‘a clear position’ on the Ukraine crisis.
India currently is engaged in expediting its evacuation process. It also contacted the Russian President on Thursday, to allow a free corridor for Indians stranded in Kharkiv.
