Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his Twitter handle to pay his tributes to the late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, as January 23 marks his birth anniversary. Modi, in his tweet, mentioned that Thackeray was ‘unwavering when it came to upholding his ideals’.
Balasaheb Thackeray, AKA Bal Thackeray, was born in Pune on January 23, 1926. He used to work as a cartoonist in a daily named ‘Free Press Journal’. In 1960, he quit his job, and 6 years later, on June 19, 1966, he founded Shiv Sena. The organization began with an aim of working in the interest of the Maharashtrian people. Thackeray breathed his last on November 17, 2012, when he was 86. His death was caused by a heart attack.
Prime Minister Modi, on his Twitter handle, has paid tribute to the Shiv Sena founder, writing – “Tributes to Shri Balasaheb Thackeray Ji on his Jayanti. He was unwavering when it came to upholding his ideals. He worked tirelessly for the welfare of people.”
It is noteworthy that, the team Shiv Sena has lately broken their decade-long tie with the BJP Party, to form a separate government in Maharashtra. Towards forming their separate party, the organization has been supported and helped by Congress and the NCP (National Congress Party).
