External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar received warm birthday wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, who also praised his efforts to strengthen India’s foreign policy and his devoted service to the country.

Taking to the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Birthday wishes to EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar Ji. He has diligently served the nation and worked toward strengthening our foreign relations. I pray that he is blessed with a long and healthy life.”

In his tweet, EAM Jaishankar responded to the Prime Minister’s wishes by expressing humility and gratitude, stating, “Thank you, PM Narendra Modi, for your good wishes. It’s a great privilege to be a member of your team.”

EAM Jaishankar, a member of the Rajya Sabha who represents the state of Gujarat, has served as India’s external affairs minister since May 30, 2019. With a distinguished career in diplomacy, S. Jaishankar served as the foreign secretary of India (2015–2018) and has held key ambassadorial posts, including ambassador to the United States (2013–2015), China (2009–2013), and the Czech Republic (2000). Apart from this, he was also the High Commissioner of India in Singapore from 2007 to 2009. He has also done many important works in Moscow, Colombo, Budapest, and Tokyo.

EAM Jaishankar has remarkable qualifications. He holds a master’s degree in political science from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, and an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in international relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi.

He received the 2019 Padma Shri award in appreciation of his achievements. A prolific writer, S. Jaishankar has produced notable books, including The India Way: Strategies for an Uncertain World (2020) and Why Bharat Matters (2024). The country’s foreign policy objectives continue to be strengthened under Dr. Jaishankar’s guidance.
