On Saturday, Narendra Modi talked to Masoud Pezeshkian over the phone and enquired about the situation that was developing in West Asia in addition to wishing him happy Eid and Nowruz. The call is their second communication after the situation in the region grew on February 28.

Modi during the discussion said that he hoped that the festive would bring peace, stability and prosperity to the region. He also expressed the concerns of India in regard to recent attacks of the major infrastructure saying this would undermine the stability of the region and also destabilized the global supply chain.

By highlighting on the significance of international trading routes, the Prime Minister once again showed that shipping lanes should not be closed or unsafe. He emphasized on the need to guarantee freedom of navigation more so in delicate maritime areas which are crucial in transporting oil, gas, and other vital commodities.

This is after Modi had earlier made a call to Pezeshkian where he had expressed his worries regarding the increasing tension, deaths of civilians, and infrastructure destruction. He also highlighted the fact that India had the priority to secure its citizens within the area and also to have continuous flow of energy supplies.

Diplomacy of India has also been at work despite the current crisis. His Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has also held several talks with his Iranian counterpart in order to iron out security issues and easel safe sea traffic.

The recent appeal indicates the moderate stance of India, which emphasizes de-escalation, dialogue, and safeguarding the global economic interests due to the incessant uncertainty in West Asia.
