Upon his arrival in Washington DC on Thursday morning (IST), Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the newly appointed Director of National Intelligence under the Trump administration, Tulsi Gabbard. It was one of the first meetings Modi has had on a tightly scheduled two-day visit to the United States, which also included an important meeting with President Donald Trump.

PM Modi shared his insight with his social media followers, thanks to his conversation with Gabbard, as well as his direction in strengthening India-US relations. He also gave her his congratulations after her recent confirmation as Director of National Intelligence. He wrote, in a post on X (Twitter), “Met USA’s Director of the National Intelligence, @TulsiGabbard in Washington DC. Congratulated her on her confirmation. Discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship, of which she’s always been a strong votary.”

Indian diaspora has been enthused by Modi’s visit to the US. He arrived to be greeted by a large crowd of supporters, even in the cold, who welcomed him warmly. He wrote on X, “A warm reception in the winter chill!” And he did so, expressing his appreciation for their presence and support. “However, though it is cold, the Indian diaspora in Washington DC has given me a very special welcome. My gratitude to them.”

During his visit, Modi will hold discussions at high levels to strengthen bilateral ties in areas such as defence, trade, and technology. It is expected to include a very important meeting scheduled with President Trump on which it will focus on key geopolitical and economic issues, reinforcing the partnership between the two nations.
