Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Kerala and Tamil Nadu today. He is in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, to lay the foundation stone for various development projects. During the event, he also launched the PM SVANidhi Credit Card and distributed PM SVANidhi loans to one lakh beneficiaries. He also flagged off three new Amrit Bharat Express trains and a new passenger train service between Thrissur and Guruvayur. During the visit, he launched a scathing attack on the current Left Front government. Attacking the Vijayan government, PM Modi stated that change will happen in Kerala.
PM Modi said that the Left parties in Kerala may not like me. However, let me state a fact. Before 1987, the BJP was a relatively marginal party in Gujarat. In 1987, the BJP gained control of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation for the first time, just as the party recently won in Thiruvananthapuram. Since then, the people of Gujarat have given us opportunities to serve, and we have been doing so for decades. Our journey began with a city in Gujarat, and similarly, our beginnings in Kerala also began with a city. I believe this shows that the people of Kerala have come to trust the BJP and are connecting with us in the same way the people of Gujarat once did.
Meanwhile, Kerala politics has witnessed a major shift. The corporate-backed regional party Twenty20 has announced its joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar welcomed Twenty20 state president Sabu M. Jacob to the alliance at a joint press conference held in the capital, Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday.
Sabu Jacob stated that the party has decided to abandon its decades-old policy of maintaining distance from coalition politics. He explained that the alleged alliance between the LDF, UDF, SDPI, and Welfare Party of India in the 2025 local body elections nearly threatened Twenty20’s existence. The party lost two of its four panchayat constituencies, although it made its presence felt in new areas.
