Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to visit West Bengal on May 29, just before a key phase in the state’s politics, according to a senior BJP member. PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Alipurduar from Sikkim and is supposed to attend a public rally and a meeting with administrators in the district. His visit happens when the BJP is trying to increase its influence in the state, with only one year remaining until the West Bengal Assembly elections.
Prime Minister Modi may deliver a speech to a major crowd in Alipurduar. “Apart from interacting with the local party machine, he can also talk about main developmental topics and look over ongoing development projects carried out by the central government in the region,” the BJP leader said. According to the BJP, the visit is meant to encourage voters in North Bengal, a region traditionally friendly to the party.
Shortly after the Prime Minister’s visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit West Bengal from May 31 through June 1. BJP leader Shah said Shah will reach Kolkata on the evening of May 31 and hold various organisation meetings on June 1. During these talks, district and state officials will work together to make a plan for the party during the 2026 Assembly elections.
By sending two important leaders to West Bengal, the BJP is proving how much it cares about the region in the next elections. The plan is that both visits will fire up BJP members and strengthen the party’s effort to replace the Trinamool government.
