New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch e-RUPI, a purpose and people-specific digital payment solution today. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payment. This system of electronic vouchers will mean a step closer to the PM’s vision of good governance.
“Several programmes have been launched over the years to ensure that the benefits reach its intended beneficiaries in a targeted and leak-proof manner, with limited touch points between the government and the beneficiary”, said a PMO statement.
National Payments Corporation of India has developed e-RUPI on its Unified Payment Interface (UPI) platform, in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and National Health Authority, to connect sponsors of the services with its beneficiaries and service providers in a digital manner without any physical interface. This means it will assure timely payment without the involvement of any intermediary.
Underlining that PM Modi has championed the digital initiatives, e-RUPI will also be useful in delivering services under Mother and Child welfare schemes, Ayushman Bharat Pradan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, and TB eradication programs. Even the private sector will leverage these digital vouchers as a part of their employee welfare and corporate social responsibility programs.
