New Delhi: As the second week for winter session of Parliament begins today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will initiate the much-awaited debate to mark 150 years of “Vande Mataram” in Parliament, paving the way for discussions.

The debate in Parliament is part of the year-long celebrations on the 150th anniversary of the national song — written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and set to tune by Jadunath Bhattacharya.

Reacting to the Lok Sabha’s special discussion on 150 years of Vande Mataram, BJP national spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra said he was grateful to the government and the Prime Minister for spotlighting “lost heroes marginalised by Nehru-Gandhi politics” and restoring their legacy. Citing the ‘Sardar@150’ celebrations, he said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s contributions were long suppressed, and similarly, the national song Vande Mataram, written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay on November 7, 1875, is being rightfully honoured on its 150th anniversary.

Besides, AAP MP Sanjay Singh has moved a motion under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha, seeking suspension of the House’s listed business to demand a discussion on what he termed a “public health emergency in Delhi,” along with the alarming rise in crimes in the National Capital and the humanitarian crisis he alleges has been triggered by bulldozer demolitions.

The Lok Sabha will also take up the debate on election reforms, which will cover all aspects of the contentious subject, including the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, on TuesdayLeader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will speak on electoral reforms on Tuesday, said a party leader.
