Jammu & Kashmir: Today marks a historic day for Jammu & Kashmir and indeed, for the entire nation, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two groundbreaking railway infrastructure projects. During his visit to Kashmir, PM Modi will officially open the Chenab Railway Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, a monumental engineering feat. Additionally, he will inaugurate the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge.
PM Modi will also flag off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar (Katra to Kashmir Vande Bharat Express) and back. These trains will provide a fast, comfortable and reliable travel option for residents, tourists, pilgrims and others.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the PM will visit and inaugurate the world’s tallest railway arch bridge Chenab Bridge and the country’s first cable-stayed rail bridge Anji Bridge at around 11 am. He will inaugurate the Vande Bharat train at around 12 noon. Apart from this, he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate other development projects worth more than Rs 46 thousand crore. He will also address a public meeting at Katra Stadium.
Until now, trains operated between Sangaldan and Baramulla in the Kashmir Valley, while rail link to rest of the country was available through Katra.
Before his visit, PM Modi tweeted that tomorrow is an important day for Jammu and Kashmir. Tomorrow we will launch projects worth Rs 46000 crore. This will change the standard of living in the development of infrastructure. Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat will promote spiritual tourism. PM Modi said that Chenab Railway Bridge is an extraordinary achievement.
A gift of Rs 46,000 crore in Katra
The Prime Minister will also dedicate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) Project to the nation. The 272 km long USBRL Project consists of 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. It has been constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 43,780 crore. The project aims to provide seamless, all-weather rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, thereby accelerating regional mobility and boosting socio-economic development. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence at Katra at a cost of over Rs 350 crore. This will be the first medical college in Reasi district which will significantly contribute to the healthcare infrastructure in the region.
