Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday will inaugurate the ‘Veer Balak Memorial’ in Anjar town of Kutch in Gujarat. The memorial has been built to remember 185 school children and 20 teachers who died during the 2001 Gujarat earthquake with Bhuj as its epicenter.
The memorial construction has been completed under the supervision of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and 100 family members of those who lost lives in the tragedy were invited for inauguration. The memorial is divided into various sections highlighting the tragic moments of the Gujarat earthquake of 2001.
PM Modi inaugurated the Smriti Van Memorial built on the outskirts of Bhuj town. Later, he held a three-kilometer-long roadshow between Hill Garden circle and District Industries Centre in Bhuj town while on the way to the ‘Smriti Van’. Thousands of people from Bhuj and surrounding areas gathered on both sides of the road and waved tricolors to express their affection for PM.
