New Delhi: The Balochistan government-in-exile has announced that it will confer the Balochi Dastar, its highest civilian honour, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi next year as a symbol of gratitude, unity and enduring friendship with India.

Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch thanked India for its continued moral support, and said the honour reflects the strong emotional bond the Baloch people feel with the country and its citizens.

The announcement was made by representatives of the Baloch government-in-exile, many of whom live in various countries fearing persecution. Leaders have repeatedly alleged that the Pakistani military maintains control of Balochistan by force.

“The Republic of Balochistan proudly announces that in 2026, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will be awarded Balochistan’s highest civilian award, the Balochi Dastar, a symbol of gratitude, unity and lasting friendship,” Mir Yar Baloch wrote in a post on X.

Elaborating on the decision, he said the award aims to “celebrate and highlight the centuries-old friendship, brotherhood and mutual respect between India and its brothers and sisters and to further enhance people-to-people contacts.” The civilian honour will be presented to PM Modi through his representatives.

What is Balochi Dastar?

Explaining the significance of this honor, Baloch said that the award has a cultural and emotional meaning. “The Balochi Dastar is not just an award. It is Balochistan’s highest civilian honor, a sacred symbol of trust, unbreakable friendship, and eternal brotherhood.

This traditional Baloch turban, which is tied with dignity and pride, is given only to selected individuals who stand firmly in the pain, dreams and struggle of the Baloch nation.
