In an unusual and greatly observed event at the Parliament complex, Narendra Modi was caught on camera as he exited his car to exchange a few words with Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on Saturday. The two leaders had some words that were friendly and composed and this attracted attention of the people present and also on social media.
The political relationship, however, short-lived, was spectacular in the context of strong political competition between the ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition party Indian National Congress. It was observed that the exchange was an informal communication between the two senior leaders, who usually appear to have harsh debates within Parliament.
The Prime Minister arrived at Prerna Sthal at the Parliament building in order to honor a social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on his 200 th anniversary of birth. The event saw the leaders on both ends of the political divide unite to celebrate the contributions of Phule towards education, social justice, and empowerment of the marginalized groups.
There were a number of prominent leaders in attendance some of whom were Om Birla, Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and former Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh.
The short exchange between Modi and Gandhi provided a welcome distraction to the event and a hope of political decency and discourse in an otherwise heated political situation in the nation.
