Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke out in the Rajya Sabha today after heated debates and a physical scuffle in the Lok Sabha the previous day. The Rajya Sabha proceeded at 11 in the morning on July 3, but the Lok Sabha was prorogued sine die following a showdown between the NDA and MPs of the INDIA bloc over Prime Minister Modi’s speech. Before beginning the proceedings, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar extended his condolences on the sad death of people in the Stampede tragedy in Hathras, UP. Other prominent personalities who have commented on the tragedy include the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, who called on the government to pass laws that could help prevent the recurrence of such incidents in future.
In his speech, PM Modi summed up the last decade of the NDA government as an ‘appetizer’ that was served to the people and hinted that the party is yet to bring out the ‘main course’. Predicting during the third term of NDA rule in India that it would become the third largest economy in the world, which only shows the improvement of various aspects of the economy in the decade, jumping from the position of tenth to fifth largest economy in the world.
Focusing on the Indian Constitution as the basis for democracy, PM Modi tied the government’s legitimacy to the Constitution described by Babasaheb Ambedkar. He declared that he was serving the community because Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution linked his authority to this constitution.
Addressing the nation at noon after the NDA’s third consecutive win in the general elections. Even as the Opposition leaders vexed the delinquent PM for letting out their leader’s Rights to speak in Parliament, PM Modi continued to explain the strategies and solutions for making future rounds of growth for India and also narrated about the government’s persistence in following the constitutional framings and economic progress.
The recent proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were also based on legislative business and future policy plans and goals, as they depict the current fluid political framework and the government’s proposed initiatives for the subsequent term.
