TOKYO – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday embarked on a symbolic journey of friendship and technological collaboration, taking a ride on a bullet train with his Japanese counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba. The two leaders traveled from Tokyo to Sendai, with the ride underscoring the strong partnership between the two nations, particularly in the realm of high-speed rail technology.
Japanese PM shared pictures from the ride on his X (formerly Twitter) account and wrote, “With Prime Minister Modi to Sendai. Continuing from last night, I will be with you in the car.” They also observed the new ALFA-X train and were briefed about the bullet train by the chairman of East Japan Railway Company, also called ‘JR East’, the train operator.
PM Modi also wrote on his X account, “We have arrived in Sendai. I visited this place by Shinkansen together with Prime Minister Ishiba”.
Upon arrival in Sendai, PM Modi had a special meeting with Indian loco pilots who are currently undergoing training with the East Japan Railway Company (JR East). The prime minister’s interaction with the trainees highlights the commitment to skill development and capacity building essential for India’s upcoming high-speed rail projects. The visit serves as a powerful symbol of the India-Japan partnership, which extends beyond infrastructure to include human resource development and the exchange of expertise.
