New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to Jayaprakash Narayan, on the birth anniversary of the hero of anti-Emergency movement. PM Modi paid his respects to Nanaji Deshmukh, a Jana Sangh leader who quit active politics for social work and rural empowerment in his 60s.
PM Modi paid tributes to Loknayak JP said, “His contribution to India is unparalled. he inspired lakhs of people to devote themselves to nation building”.
In 1902, JP as Narayan was fondly referred was a leading freedom fighter and radical socialist. He returned on national scene after protesting against policies of the Congress led by then prime minister Indira Gandhi. He is credited for galvanizing popular opinion against her government.
Remembering Nanaji Deshmukh, PM Modi tweeted, “His rich understanding of rural India and agriculture is reflected in his works. He was also an outstanding thinker”.
PM Modi also bowed to the fourth Sikh guru Sri Guru Ram Das Ji and tweeted about his ‘indelible contribution to Sikh history and culture’.
