On State’s Foundation Day, Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that his government will focus on the nine requests made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Calling it a “Mahayagna of development,” PM Modi lauded the achievements of the double-engine government and outlined nine key requests for the people of Uttarakhand and visiting tourists to further the state’s progress.

Addressing the Police Raitik Parade via video message, PM Modi reflected on the beginning of the silver jubilee year of Uttarakhand. He urged everyone to prepare for the journey of the next 25 years, coinciding with India’s Amrit Kaal. “The resolution of a developed Uttarakhand for a developed India will be seen getting fulfilled in this period,” he said.

The requests for both locals and tourists will be central to Uttarakhand’s development plans, with the state government committed to ensuring that these priorities drive future progress, said Dhami.

PM Modi further stressed the tangible benefits of the double-engine government, including improved access to clean water and extensive infrastructure development. “Before 2014, less than five percent of houses had tap water. Today, the coverage has increased to nearly 96 percent,” he said, adding that the length of PMGSY roads in the state has quadrupled since 2014.

He also encouraged people to plant ‘one tree in the name of mother’ to protect the environment and fight climate change, promote water cleanliness by conserving sources, regularly visit villages and convert old homes into ‘home stays’ for extra income.

Prime Minister Modi also appealed to tourists visiting Uttarakhand to avoid single-use plastic in the Himalayas, spend at least 5 percent of their travel budget on local products under ‘vocal for local,’ follow traffic rules and respect the decorum of pilgrimage sites.
