PM Modi Mauritius Visit: PM Narendra Modi has reached Mauritius on a two-day visit. PM Modi will attend the 57th National Day celebrations of Mauritius as the chief guest on March 12. The Prime Minister has been given a grand welcome in Mauritius. PM Navin Ramgoolam along with opposition leaders, judges and 200 VVIPs arrived at the airport to receive PM Modi. Prime Minister Modi was welcomed by Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam by garlanding him at the airport. Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Mauritius, Speaker of National Assembly, Leader of Opposition, Foreign Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Chairman of Grand Port District Council and many others were present with him.
In this visit, PM Modi Mauritius Visit will sign several agreements to further the economic and security relations between the two countries. This is the second visit of the Indian PM to Mauritius after 2015. The Ministry of External Affairs said that a contingent of the Indian Army, a naval warship and the Air Force’s Akash Ganga sky diving team will also participate in the national celebrations of Mauritius.
Officials said that during this visit starting from Tuesday, PM Modi will inaugurate more than 20 India-made projects. This includes capacity building to community-based infrastructure projects. During this, PM Modi will inaugurate the Civil Services College building along with his counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam. The construction of this building has been completed at a cost of about $ 4.75 million. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for this project in 2017.
PM Modi will also e-inaugurate 20 community projects and area health centres, which have been constructed at a cost of about Rs 7 crore. These community projects also include sports-related infrastructure.
Ahead of his Mauritius visit, Prime Minister Modi on Monday said the visit will open a ‘new and bright’ chapter in the relations between the two countries. Mauritius Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful told news agency PTI that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a line of credit will be signed on March 12 during Prime Minister Modi’s visit. In 2016, India gave Mauritius a special economic package of $353 million, which includes the Metro Express project, Supreme Court building, new ENT hospital, social housing project and digital tablets for school children.
