In a strong push to his growing automobile industry in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that electric vehicles(EVs) produced in India will be seen vrooming on the streets of over 100 countries soon. Addressing an event after the launch of the Suzuki eVitara at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, the Prime Minister added that it is “another achievement of Make in India, and now these vehicles will carry the label of Made in India where the global markets welcome this product.”
Acknowledging the achievement, PM Modi said not only the strength of the country as a manufacturer, but the world also shows enhanced trust in Indian technology and manufacturing prowess, as there are India-made EVs in other countries as well. He applauded Suzuki Japan on its extensive cooperation with India, stating that the company’s goal of manufacturing EVs in India is a representation of strong Indo-Japanese relations.
Another problem that was raised by the Prime Minister is the problem of rare earth minerals, which are vital to EV batteries and the renewable energy domain overall. He has declared that the government has initiated the Critical Minerals Mission to overcome this problem. The mission will be aimed at exploration and development of critical minerals in more than 1,200 sites across India, hence will make the country self-sufficient in terms of having resources to feed future industries.
The announcement of EV exports in India is timely, along with a side announcement of the start of manufacturing of hybrid battery electrolyte in India as well. He stated that this is another milestone on the way of the country to the idea of being India and creating everything for the world. With hope that the new initiatives will deliver a new chapter towards clean mobility in India, sustainability and competitive in the global market, the Prime Minister linked the occasion with Ganesh Utsav festivities.
In announcing these electric mobility updates, PM Modi has stated the official government intentions to kick-start the EV industry in India as a hub, signalling one of the largest incursions of the country in the international EV scene.
