New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Kazan, Russia, on Tuesday to attend the 16th BRICS Summit. This will be the group’s first summit following its expansion last year. The theme for this year’s BRICS Summit is Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Justice.

India’s Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar has said that PM Modi will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from BRICS member countries in Kazan. In an exclusive interview with Aaj Tak, Vinay Kumar said, ‘The conference will focus on economic cooperation, tackling global challenges like climate change and international security.

PM Modi is visiting Russia for the second time in the last 4 months. Earlier, he had come to attend the India-Russia summit in July. PM will attend dinner with BRICS leaders this evening. He will meet Russian President Putin. He may also have informal talks with many leaders.

Talks with Chinese President possible after 2 years

There is a possibility of talks between PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. The Ministry of External Affairs said yesterday that an agreement has been reached between India and China regarding patrolling in Ladakh. According to media reports, in such a situation, talks can take place between PM Modi and Jinping. If this happens, then the two leaders will talk to each other after 2 years. The last time the two met was in 2022 during the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia.
