New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme on Sunday, August 6, 2023. The scheme aims to redevelop 508 railway stations across India as part of the celebration of India’s 75th Independence Anniversary in 2023.

“Under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 508 railway stations are set to be redeveloped, leading to a significant transformation of rail infrastructure in India”, tweeted PM Modi with a video addressing the citizens.

The scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Railways in collaboration with the National Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (NRIDCL). The total cost of the scheme is estimated to be ₹24,470 crore.

The redevelopment of the railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme will include a number of features, such as; modernization of the station buildings, improvement of passenger amenities, upgradation of the railway infrastructure, development of commercial areas, and creation of green spaces

The scheme is expected to boost tourism and economic activity in the areas around the railway stations. It is also expected to create employment opportunities.

Speaking at the launch of the scheme, Prime Minister Modi said that the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a “fitting tribute” to the 75th Independence Anniversary of India. He said that the scheme will “transform” the railway stations in India and make them “world-class”.

The Prime Minister also said that the scheme will “boost” the economy and create employment opportunities. He said that the scheme will “make a difference” in the lives of the people of India.
