New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the efforts of Indian sportspersons participating in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. PM Modi will invite Olympians to the Red Fort as special guests on the occasion of Independence Day. The celebrations for national events would be low-key amid the pandemic for the second consecutive year.
“This time, the highest number of players from India have qualified in the Olympics. Remember, this has been done while battling the biggest disaster of 100 years. There are many games in which we have qualified for the first time. Not only qualified but also giving tough competition,” said PM Modi while virtually addressing the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in Gujarat.
This year, India is being represented by 120 athletes at Tokyo Olympics, winning two Bronze medals so far. This is the largest-ever Indian contingent including highest female representation of 56 sportspersons till date. Sources have confirmed that PM Modi will personally meet and interact with all these athletes.
