New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress at the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Center (IECC), in Delhi today. The prime minister said, “Now, crores of small farmers are receiving benefits under PM-KISAN scheme without any interference from middlemen”. “In the last 4 years, a direct transfer of Rs 2.5 lakh crores has been made into bank accounts of farmers under this scheme”, he further added.

During his address, PM Modi said that the government is now prioritizing chemical-free farming and natural farming. In the past years, India has focused on the creation of Farmer Producer Organisations or FPOs. Under the Central Sector Scheme of ‘Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs)’, the government aims to form and promote 10000 new FPOs with a budgetary outlay of Rs. 6865 crores. This is a production cluster area approach and specialized commodity-based approach.
Initially, one FPO is allocated per block and so far, a total of 4465 new FPOs produce clusters have been allocated of which 632 have been registered.
