Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid his respect to the martyrs of the 2001 Parliament attack, stating that their brave act shall remain as an inspiration for generations of Indians. “Paid homage to those martyred in the 2001 Parliament attack. Their sacrifice will forever inspire our nation. We remain eternally grateful for their courage and dedication.” PM Modi twitted at X (formerly twitter).
December 13, 2001, is a black spot on India’s calendar since militants of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), two Pakistan-based banned militant outfits, attacked the Parliament. As per the assault, five personnel of Delhi Police lost their lives: two in the Parliament Security Service, one CRPF constable, and a gardener. Despite the loss of lives, and actualizes the efficiency of security forces terminated all 5 assailants.
The terrorists came in a car with markings of Home Ministry and fake Parliament insignia, with AK-47 rifles, grenade launchers, and pistols. They went for the Vice President’s car, which was parked in the complex, hoping to cause confusion. Security staff immediately confronted the attackers and mitigated over 100 people’s peril, together with the politicians who were inside the building.
Not only did it bring a shock to the nation, but it also resulted in the height of tension between both countries, India and Pakistan, and led to the 2001-02 India-Pakistan standoff. The heroic spirits of deputy superintendent of police R.K. Jagdish, assistant sub-inspectors Matbar Singh, Kamlesh Kumari, Nanak Chand, and Rampal, head constables Om Prakash, Bijender Singh and Ghan Shyam and Desh Raj gardener have become immortal.
Several leaders, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and others, paid tribute to the martyrs at the Parliament on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the Parliament attack. This marks their valor to date as defenders of the nation without compromise.
