Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress and DMK alliance, alleging their tendency to disrespect the Hindu religion in light of Rahul Gandhi’s recent ‘Shakti’ remark. Speaking at a rally in Salem, Tamil Nadu, Modi accused the INDI alliance of deliberate insults towards Hindu beliefs, emphasizing their silence on criticisms against other religions.
He pointed out the alliance’s purported intention to dismantle ‘Shakti’, symbolized by revered Hindu goddesses like Mariamman, Kanchi Kamakshi, and Madurai Meenakshi in Tamil Nadu. Modi underscored that while Hinduism reveres ‘Shakti’ as female and maternal power, the INDI alliance pledges to obliterate it.
Furthermore, Modi asserted Tamil Nadu’s growing support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), contrasting the DMK and Congress as synonymous with widespread corruption and dynastic rule. He linked the progress achieved by India, including advancements in 5G technology, to the nation’s departure from Congress’s governance, contrasting it with the entrenched dynastic control perpetuated by the DMK in Tamil Nadu.
Modi also accused the DMK of disrespecting the late former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, highlighting their treatment of women and their lack of regard for female leaders.
Regarding Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on ‘Shakti’ during a rally in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, Modi portrayed them as an attempt to discredit the integrity of India’s democratic institutions, particularly electronic voting machines (EVMs). Gandhi’s invocation of ‘Shakti’ to symbolize the state’s might was interpreted by Modi as an insinuation of electoral manipulation and collusion with the ruling BJP.
Modi’s rebuttal encapsulated a broader narrative of contrasting ideologies and values between the BJP and its political adversaries, positioning the BJP as defenders of Hindu beliefs and national integrity against the alleged threats posed by the Congress-DMK alliance.
