Kanniyakumari: On the 1st of June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended the 45-hour-long meditation he conducted at Kanniyakumari in the state of Tamil Nadu. His withdrawal process started from pulling over at the pedestal of the Tamil saint-philosopher Thiruvalluvar statue. On the second day of his meditation also as well as on the final day of the meditation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began the day at the Memorial, offering the ‘Surya Arghya’ during sunrise.

During the meditation period, our Prime Minister Modi followed a liquid diet as he drank coconut water, grape juice and most liquids. It was during such a time of spirituality and reflection that this undertaking occurred against the backdrop of political volatility.

PM Modi’s meditation tour of Kanniyakumari invited a major political controversy. Voting for him was a clear transgression of the Model Code of Conduct, said the Opposition, which claimed that it would provide an unfair edge for him and his party if they meditated on the voting day. They said his shifting of goalpost was actually the most lyrical performance psychology to woo the voters as the nation went to polls for the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

The last round of voting was conducted on the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024 with 57 constituencies at stake, located in seven states and one union territory. This was the final stage of a complex and more than two-week polling process that started on April 19.

The opposition party accused NEC of rigging the elections, and this became an additional challenge for the Election Commission, which was responsible for conducting the free and fair elections. According to them, it is due to its proactive engagement in the voting period, as exemplified by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that it may influence public opinion and, therefore, the process of the election.
