Claiming that Coldplay’s performance in Mumbai and Ahmedabad are testament to the very large potential of India for live concerts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about it. During the Make In Odisha Conclave 2025 in Bhubaneswar, PM Modi asked states and the private sector to invest in infrastructure and skill development to tap into the market for the growing concert economy.

“You must have seen the amazing images from Coldplay’s concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad in the past few days. India is also a testimony for these events to the immense scope we have for live concerts,” PM Modi said. He highlighted how global artists can’t be ignored and why such an influx would result in tourism and create large-scale opportunities to work.

PM Modi also called upon stakeholders to think about developing the right infrastructure to support this burgeoning sector. “Concerts don’t just entertain, they’ve become a springboard into event management, artist grooming, security and a plethora of other domains. They can assist India to become a hub for global live entertainment,” he added.

Five amazing performances by British band Coldplay set new records and blew Indian audiences away. On Sunday, their final show in Ahmedabad passed the 1,34,000 mark, a figure that the band gleefully posted on their X (formerly Twitter).

The economic and cultural benefits of the concert economy, PM Modi explained, are that it puts India on display for the whole world and that opportunities are created in jobs across multiple sectors. India’s placing itself as a hub for international live performances comes from the success of high-profile tours like Coldplay’s.

With this call to action, India finally has a chance to become a major player in the live concert industry, says the Prime Minister, building an ecosystem that can help global and domestic artists thrive together.
